Description: The Katana features a top-end construction with its full Sensorwood core and two sheets of titanium. Meticulously matched with Völkl's Extended Low Profile (ELP) rocker, the Katana's 111mm waist gives you float, while the beefy construction allows great handling on harder snow. For good skiers who want a big mountain powder ski that can handle the groomed on occasion.
Podwer mag Review: The Katana isn’t the perfect Eastern ski. But if you’re lucky enough to ski the West as much as your home hills in the East—like most New Yorkers seem to be—you need a pair of boards that can handle deep powder over Christmas break and groomers every other Friday. With a 111mm waist and moderate rocker, the Katana floated in powder in Jackson Hole’s Granite and Pinedale canyons and smeared turns like we all imagine snowboards do. Like most Volkls, the ski’s a tank with two sheets of titanium and a wood core, so it also powers through crud and holds an edge on ice. Thankfully, the rocker is less pronounced than the Kuro (Volkl’s biggest pow ski), so there’s plenty of edge to carve groomers, too.
